Ginn family collection, 19th century.

Letter (1867), from Bucksport, to Samuel Ginn, giving notice of the foundering in a hurricane of the bark Oak Ridge with the loss of all hands except Capt. George W. Ginn; and letters from George Ginn: from St. Thomas to his brother, on the repairing of masts (1885); aboard the ship John Knox, outside of Buenos Aires; letters to his brother Alfred (also found as Albert), with a detailed description of the area, plans of a building, commentary on the war-like atmosphere, his cargo of lumber, and departure (1856) for Calcutta, India; letter from George Ginn, in Washington, D.C., again to Albert, describing tours of public buildings and visits to Mount Vernon as well as description of castings and boilers he will be taking to Pensacola, Fla., for a planing mill (1852); and from Norfolk, Va. (undated), reporting that his hometown crew had left him and the shipment of four slaves.
